Spice It Up!

Oh wow...I'm a fan of Aishwarya Rai ever since I saw her opposite Martin Henderson in Bride & Prejudice. And when I found out that she had another movie starring opposite another fave actor of mine, I wanted to get my hands on it.

The Mistress of Spices was released in 2005 and starred Aishwarya Rai and Dylan McDermott. Now I don't know if this movie was released in theaters or if it was an indie movie that was released in selected theaters only, BUT it took me 2 years before I finally watched it!

The movie was kinda draggy, I admit, but regardless of how draggy it was, I couldn't seem to pry myself away from the TV screen (I rented the movie at Blockbuster as soon as I saw it available!).

Now I know it's a fantasy-like story, but somehow I couldn't help myself from relating to the lead character, Tilo (played by Rai). She was a woman who grew up following tradition, and bound by the same tradition that kept her from experiencing life outside what she was shown. Of course there were rules, sacrilegious rules that once broken, certain doom awaits.

The movie's lesson behind the whole thing was well understood by yours truly. In the end I couldn't help but smile and believe that I can have the best of both worlds. Tilo wanted her spices and Doug (played by McDermott), but before she could live her fairy tale romance with the man of her life, she must be put through a test before handing her the end result.

30 Days of...

OK, I am no fan of those horror/suspense/gore-filled movies, but since I got a free movie pass for the premiere this evening and it starred Josh Hartnett, I figured I'd give it a try.

Well, all I can say is 30 Days of Night is one movie that I ain't going to waste paying thirteen bucks for! As soon as the opening scene unfold something in my gut told me this would be one of 'em movies where it would be slow paced and just...well, okay, so I am into vampires, but jeezums! The vampires I had in mind are the likes of Angel, Spike, and Louis -- I didn't want anybody looking like the Master from Buffy the Vampire Slayer!!!!

I have to admit that out of those hottie heartthrobs that emerged in the early 2000s, Josh Hartnett was one of 'em fine actors who can do comedy, drama and action and...hey, he's got good facial expressions! Except I didn't like him much in Hollywood Homicide 'coz I don't think he was given any justice there when he took on the role as one of the two cops in that movie.

Anyway, I digress.

The movie, overall, was quite predictable. Some scenes already spoke volumes on who was going to die next, but it was prolongued to another scene. And the sacrifice Evan made was...well, really, it was their only way out of that mess. But the final 'battle' scene between Eben and the head of the vampire coven that took over a northern small town in Alaska was...well, the ending was very anti-climactic!

Now the ending scene leaves audience (at least I was) wondering what Stella, Eben's strange wife, would do after the events of the night before the first sun rise in 30 days.

Suffice to say, this was a complete waste of two hours and thirty-five minutes of my life. BUT (and my sis and two other companion who went with me to watch the movie) agreed that this movie at least had a steady plot line; it had a STORY unlike the other scare-the-pants-off-you gorefest movies shown recently.

Gimme, Gimme...NO MORE!

OK, so we all know that Britney Spears' completely lost her marbles ever since...well, ever since she fell off the bandwagon after pulling that quickie marriage of hers in Vegas before she ended up exchanging "I Do's" with the father of her two kids, K-Fed.

Her "comeback" appearance at the recent MTV Video Music Awards this year caused quite a lot of people to raise an eyebrow and ridicule her.

I am no big Britney Spears fan, but I do enjoy some of her music occasionally, especially if I want to get a dose of those sugary-pop-bubbalcious goodness that she can't seem to get away from, unlike her counterpart, Christina Aguilera.

Anyway, I was browsing YouTube and found two clips of her MTV performances. One was from back in 2000 when she performed Oops! I Did It Again and of course the other one is a clip of her performing in the 2007 MTV awards with her latest single, Gimme More. Check out the two clips and tell me what BIG DIFFERENCE you noticed, aight?

Britney MTV 2007 Performance

I don't know about you, but in her recent appearance on MTV performing her comeback single, I think she was looking less enthused and kinda...well, let's cut through the chase and just say outright she looked OUT OF IT.

Where was the passion for performing that was seen back in her 2000 performance when she danced a friggin' snake?! Heck, she even looked more excited locking lips with Madonna when she performed with the Queen of Pop alongside Christina Aguilera back in '03! Anybody remember this famous performance by the trio that was frontpage news for...uhm...weeks after
it was aired???
